Brand History

Established in September, 1991, Carato FJC Keelung relocated from #46 to its present address of #38 on the bustling Ai 3rd Road in 1993. With storied background spanning over five decades starting with family patriarch/matriarch JingChuan Chen/JingTse Yang's traditional goldsmith shop, second generation ChungYi Chen and wife YuHuai Chen successfully transitioned their crafts into fine jewellery boutique. Founders

Born in 1950 in Keelung, Mr. Chung Yi Chen was the youngest son in the family. After graduating from National Taiwan Ocean University in electric engineering, he opted to return home and assist in managing the goldsmith shop. In 1977 He married Ms. YuHuai Chen, born in 1954 and also raised in Keelung, and built his own family. Eventually they grew independent from the family business and established Carato Fine Jewellery Company; the name was derived from ChungYi's Rotary Club identity that accents the weight unit for gemstones: carat. With help of long time staffers, most notably Charlene Chen, Yvonne Liu, ChiuHsian Hsu, Debby Wang, and HuiMiao Lan, Carato FJC flourished during the prosperous economic boom in Taiwan. After retiring in 2013, ChungYi and YuHuai passed the torch to the next generaion, and the Carato story continues ...

Since 1982, he had continuously donated under his mother's and Carato FJC's names to Taiwan Fund for Children and Families, and was a frequent donar to Beacon of Faith Home for Youth Foundation in Keelung, which provides shelters to youths in need. Carato FJC has also been providing Brilliant Performer Scholarships to the annual Jazz Music Summer Camp organized by National Theater & Concert Hall since its 2nd installment in 2009, hoping to encourage young musicians forging careers in music and to promote the art of jazz in Taiwan.
